Punk Rock Cycling Team to Host Training Camp in Indiana
Des Moines, IA - With the seemingly endless winter the Midwest is experiencing many Midwestern cyclists are ordering flights to get themselves just about anywhere as long as it’s warm and sunny. However the members of the Punk Rock Cycling Women’s Team, based in Des Moines, Iowa, are taking a different approach to spring training. They’ll be making the jog about 9 hours east to Bloomington, Indiana.
From an outside view it would seem the PRC team is just swapping one cold Midwestern city for another, but according to team director Donny Quixote, nothing could be further from the truth. “The riding in Bloomington and the Brown County area is great. Rolling hills about triple the size of what we have to race on in here in Iowa. It’ll be a perfect transition from trainers to race day.” As for the cold Quixote describes spring training camp to be more about the camaraderie than the riding and says, “Yeah, it might be cold and wet and totally miserable. But a team that suffers together stays together.”
Though the riders on the team may not feel the same way as Quixote. PRC's Maria Ruhtenberg had this to say about the decision to host spring training camp in Indiana, "I think leaving snow covered Iowa for snow covered Indiana is stupid. I hate winter. Waiter! A BOTTLE OF WINE NOW!"
PRC will be staying in Brown County, located about an hour south of Indianapolis between Columbus and Bloomington. The team plans to regularly ride through Brown County State Park.
