RACE REPORT
March 5th brought the Ozzie Juniors back to Lawrence and Clinton Lake State Park for the second installment of the Mojo’s Spring Fling Criterium Series. In week two, the juniors proved to be a much more cohesive unit, both on and off the course.

During the early part of the race, the Ozzies stayed in a very tight group within the lead pack. Midway into the race, GP Velotek seemed to be gaining control, when Hervey Wright rode off the front to distract Velotek and give Oz a chance to regroup. The team rode together in the lead group for two more laps, when John Nelson and a rider from Velotek formed a break. The two stayed out front for the remainder of the race, sharing the workload. Into the final corner, John sat in 2nd and waited for his moment. With about 300 meters to go, John put the hammer down and sprinted to victory. (This guy looked like a pro out there!)

Also in the top ten were George Keomany in 6th place and Shawn Schmidt in 7th place. Hervey Wright, Chris Wells, Josh Wade, and Nathaniel Oliphant showed good team support, while Andrew Oliphant and Amanda Kline fell back into chase groups.

In the Super-Bees category, Oz had three riders finish in the top ten. Sam Kline took 5th place, Danielle Wade was 6th, and Colleen Wells crossed the line in 10th place.

The noticeable change in organization, communication, and application of team skills brought results not seen in the previous race. Continuing these practices will bring further success and an enjoyable season.
