WALLA WALLA ROAD RACE
SUNDAY, APRIL 25
Walla Walla, Washington
Presented by the Wheatland Wheelers Bicycle Club
Thanks to Steve S. Rapp
At the Walla Walla RR Sunday, April 25, the first groups of riders, the Pro-I-IIs, Masters A and Masters B, were met with sunny and breezy conditions. An unusually wet spring delayed the farmers' planting in the area, so the winds kicked up dust from the fallow areas. An afternoon storm pelted the IIIs, IV-Vs, Juniors and Women.
The Pro-I-IIs and Masters A elected to combine their fields, both ride five laps (70 miles) rather than six and four, respectively, and eliminate the hot spots. But the Pro-I-IIs shelled the old guys immediately anyway.
Six of the 33 Masters B riders were over 50, and cash prizes for the top two were added.
