Afton Alps Cyclocross Race
October 10, 1999
Minnesota
Thanks to Gregg Brekke
Fifty riders braved the warm and sunny weather to race the Afton Alps/Loon State Cyclists cyclocross race. Riders enjoyed a fast dry course with a few soft spots thrown in for fun. The Kid 'Cross field was eight rider strong, ages 3 to 9.
Special thanks to Afton Alps Recreation Area for helping host this event - event director John Reents provided two staff members, three EMTs, and lots of help prior to and after the race. Thanks also to The Bicycle Chain for the prizes and for sending two staff members to the race. Carrie Hansen (of The Bicycle Chain) did a great job getting the Kid 'Cross off and running. Members of Loon State Cyclists helped with registration and course monitoring.
Finally, thanks to the riders who helped make this event a success. We are already planning to run this event next year as part of an expanded MCF Cyclocross series.
