The 5th race in the Jogmate cyclocross series at Ft. Steilacoom went off in near perfect conditions. This race scribe feels like Rush Limbaugh because all of the race reports this year can read as a big "ditto". In the A race the Control Tech boys, Knapp and Hanson, put it to the group once again. The training for these 2 consists of pulling the legs off insects and watching them suffer; all in preperation for what they do to the racers on the weekends. Cruel people, these two! Some new faces showed up with some fine performances by Oregons Eric Tonkin (6), John Meyers (11) and Montana's Dave Harrison (9).
For the Master's, with series leader Rutledge out of town, David Hull won a tough race against new riders Randy Daniels and Paul Mernaugh.
The absense of the "Grande Ann" also let Lora Hechman shine in the Women's field as she rode to a respectable first over Seattle Metro Cross leader Josie Beggs.
The red hot B race had the top 3 series' leaders fighting each other on the tough runups and Jon Cullom won his first race of the season over Bentson and Henson. However in the B race it was Jr. rider Damion Donais doing the damage to the field as he won overall and was consistantly riding stronger and running faster than the field.
A very fine weekend of racing with the crowds on "Bart don't like this hill" runup providing lots of help for maxed out legs to get up the last bit. Next weekend looks promising with a weather system moving in to get some real cross weather at last.
