Sacramento CX #2: Let is snow!
Sacramento, California
December 20, 1998

Thanks to John and Linda Elgart, Promoters

Race Notes:

A rare Valley snowstorm that broke out halfway through the combined A/B race gave the Sacramento CX #2 a real Euro flavor and did little to slow winner Justin Morgan, who showed outstanding cross skills on the single track and the high speed dismounts to take a sprint finish from Kelly "the Bunny" Stephens. As he did the week before, Kelly amazed the crowd with some awesome bunny hopping, this time over a large telephone pole that was placed diagonally in the track. But even so he could not gain more than a second or two over Justin Morgan's full speed flying dismounts.

The final margin of the A race was made a bit closer and more exciting when Justin and Kelly sprinted for the "B" finish three laps early, then sat up, allowing John Elgart to gain back his lost minute. Before that Elgart and Sam Giles gave the crowd something to cheer for by going neck and neck for the first half of the race until Elgart pulled away to a slim lead.

Last week's winner, Mo Robbins, fell during the running start when his bike got tangled, then worked his way up to 3rd place before retiring from the race with an injured calf. Mo promises to return in 2 weeks in Reno for the District Championships.

Special mention should go to the women entrants, Linda Elgart and Sharon Tenderich. The A and B fields ran together, and had Linda been entered in the B race, she would have won it.
