You would not have believed it by the weather in Seattle, but the race at Mason Lake, WA was DRY all day! This course was a gentle rolling 13 mile loop around the lake with no major climbs to break things up but a good head wind on the back side of the lake prove to be deceive.
I would like to thank the Tacoma Bicycle Team for all there help at the race!! Look for this race next year on the schedule. The rider review was that it was a fun, fast course that was easy to sit in if you were out of shape.

Category Pro 1 & 2 Men - 36 riders - 78 miles
This race started out fast with a solo one mane break by the ageless Franz Hammer (Saturn of Bellevue). He stayed out front solo for two and half laps before the group decided to bring him back. The winning move cam with two laps to go when a group of six riders quickly gained a 1 minute gap. This group included Glen Bunselmeyer - Control Tech Racing, Nick Hillyer - Pacific Financial Services, Brad Halstead - Capital Bicycle Club, Ken Hillyer - Wedgwood Cycles/Big Time Pizza, Randy Belles - Saturn of Bellevue, Paul Johnson - Thomas Kemper.
Bunselmeyer was defenitly the horse in the group - taking long pulls into the stiff head wind. With one lap to go the group had a lead of 1:40 with little reaction from main field. On the backside into the head wind - Bunselmeyer decided to shake things up and accelerated hard into the head wind - only Nick Hillyer could manage to get in his wake and stick with the big man. The other four were left to fight for third place.
At the finish Bunselmeyer easily took the when but N. Hillyer was pretty happy to finish second is his first cat. 2 race. For the four left behind it became a race for the best sprinter. Belles knowing that he was not much of a sprinter - attacked three times on the small rollers - this did shed Paul Johnson but two fast finisher were still on his wheel. Halstead and the other Hillyer, Ken, thanked Belles for the nice lead out as they flew by with Halstead edging out Hillyer by a half wheel.
